Visiting Artist Lecture - Jacob Escobedo from Cartoon Network

On Friday, April 11, Ashland University is pleased to host Jacob Escobedo, vice president of creative design for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim’s Creative Group. 

Escobedo will be meeting with journalism and digital media students in the morning of Friday, April 11 from 11-12 and will meet with art students in the afternoon from 1:30-2:30. 

The public is invited to attend an evening lecture he will present on his experiences in the art and media world. The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Ronk Auditorium (Dwight Schar Education Building 301 College Blvd.). 

Escobedo began working as a freelance artist for Cartoon Network in 2000, and currently works with such hit shows as Adventure Time and Regular Show. Escobedo is also well known for his album cover art for bands including DangerMouse, The Shins, Broken Bells, and others.

2014 Juried Student Art Exhibition Winners

The award winners have been announced for the Ashland University 2014 Juried Student Art Exhibition that will run through March 28 in the University’s Coburn Gallery.

The outside juror for exhibition is Julie M. Elman is an associate professor in the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University in Athens, where she teaches courses in publication design. She has an MFA in photography from Ohio University and a BFA in commercial art from the University of Dayton (in Ohio). She worked within the newspaper industry for 15 years, as a designer, photojournalist and picture editor. She is co-author of The Newspaper Designer's Handbook, 7th edition, with Tim Harrower (McGraw-Hill, 2012). Elman designed the New York Times best-selling photography book The Rise of Barack Obama (Triumph Books, 2008) for Pete Souza, who is the chief White House photographer. She also designed the book Stories from the Anne Grimes Collection of American Folk Music (Ohio University Press, 2010).

Art Students will Present Work in this Year's Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium


Ashland University’s College of Arts and Sciences is hosting an Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Symposium that will feature the works of approximately 46 students from 12 departments in the College.

According to Dr. Diane Bonfiglio, assistant professor of psychology, the April 1 symposium, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the John C. Myers Convocation Center. The symposium will feature oral presentations, performances, poster presentations and art exhibitions.
